AIFFA chance to network with Bollywood and Hollywood

KUCHING: Hundreds of top international filmmakers will gather here for the three-day Asean International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA 2013) starting from March 28.

Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said the response towards the event, which will be held for the first time in Kuching City, had been very encouraging.

He said to date, about 120 filmmakers and producers from all over Asean, Bollywood, and Hollywood were expected to come to Sarawak for the event.

He said they would be here to share their experience and skills with industry players and the fans.

“As at today, some 28 filmstars from all over Asean, including Malaysia, have confirmed their attendance.

“A few filmstars from Korea are also expected to come,” he said at the handing over of contribution to 20 veteran artistes from Sarawak here Wednesday night.

The contribution was from the 1Malaysia Artistes Foundation, headed by Datuk D. J Dave.

Johari, who is Housing Minister, said the aim of having the festival was to promote the state’s tourism industry and at the same time create an avenue for all Asean filmmakers and their counterparts from Bollywood and Hollywood to meet and network with one another.

He said unique destinations for filmmakers and locations for shootings would also be highlighted during the festival.

“We hope to make Sarawak a good platform for the filmmakers to shoot their future films.

“On top of that, I believe the festival will make great impact on our tourism industry,” he said.

The festival would award films with outstanding achievements in the Asean cinema, he added.
