GEORGE TOWN: A man who claims to be the personal assistant to Selangor state executive councillor Ronnie Liu has resigned saying he has lost confidence in his boss.

Jafrei Nordin told a press conference here that he was dissatisfied with Liu's conduct as a state exco member and over his refusal to answer allegations of corruption aimed at him.

Jafrei said he would formally submit his resignation letter within the next few days.

He also said he was unhappy with DAP for allowing Liu to allegedly undermine the interests of DAP and PKR in Selangor, stressing that he was aware of such plans.

He cited for example, plans by DAP to woo former Cabinet minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim to contest on the socialist party ticket in the state and efforts to sideline the Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, who he claimed was branded by some groups there as Khalid Gagap (Nervous Khalid) due to his indecisive nature.

The plan, he claimed, was to ensure that DAP remains strong in Selangor at the expense of PKR or PAS.

He also claimed that he decided to announce his resignation in Penang as he was worried about the safety of his family in Selangor.

Liu denied that Jafrei was part of his office organisation.

“Three years ago, he volunteered to work for me and I accepted it. But he then disappeared. I suspect that he was bought over by our (political) rivals.”

Jafrei, however, claimed that he has documents to prove his involvement in Liu's office.

Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng, who helped to facilitate the press conference, said he advised Jafrei not to place “all his cards on the table” yet because DAP is prone to misleading the people.

“Jafrei is a friend who came to me for help as he is afraid of Liu,” he said adding that there was a letter from Khalid's office addressing Jafrei as Liu's personal assistant.
