Traffic continues to be heavy on highways (Updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: The traffic flow on several highways was reported to be slow Saturday evening as city folks headed to their hometowns for the Chinese New Year celebration Sunday.

A Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) spokesperson said traffic was congested before the Gombak Toll Plaza to the Genting Sempah Tunnel.

"Traffic is also slow from Putra Mahkota to the Seremban R&R, Simpang Renggam to Machap and Skudai to Senai Utara," he said.

He said a contra-flow lane was opened at KM66-66.1 (Simpang Renggam-Machap) to ease congestion following an accident at KM67.6 at 1.50pm.

According to PLUS on Twitter, traffic was smooth from Tanjung Malim heading to Behrang, but remained slow from Behrang heading to Hentian Ladang Bikam.

Motorists are advised to follow the travel schedule issued by PLUS and to leave home earlier for long-distance journeys. - Bernama
