Hisham: New security laws will be used on those with militant links

By MOHD FARHAAN SHAH

JOHOR BARU: The Home Ministry will use the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 on anyone found to have ties with militants, warned Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He added that ex-ISA detainee Yazid Sufaat, his acquaintance Halimah Hussein, and his assistant Mohd Hilmi Hasim had all been detained under the new act after they were found to have ties with a militant group.

“Their links could lead to global implications for our country especially if we refrain from taking immediate action,” he said during a press conference after launching the new Home Ministry Young Squad logo here on Saturday.

Hishammuddin said that the government was serious in ensuring the country would not become a hub for terrorism-linked activities.

“The new act was established to ensure the safety and security of the country,” he said.
