State studying two major recreation-based tourism projects, says Taib

KUCHING: Two major tourism booster projects are in the offing for Sarawak.

Although details are still being kept under wraps, Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud hinted that these projects would focus on recreation.

“The state government is studying two big tourism projects on recreation now.

“I can’t say more at the moment,” he said during the question-and-answer session of his public lecture here yesterday.

He said though these projects were targeting tourists mainly from neighbouring countries, the state was also looking into improving facilities for cruises to cater for eco-tourists from China, Taiwan and Japan.

He said tourism would always remain the best sector to provide employment for the state.

Furthermore, he said tourism was always a money spinner, adding Sarawak had gained significantly from its eco-tourism activities.
