Girl claims teacher was rough with her

RAWANG: In a fit of anger, a teacher grabbed a Year Three girl by her collar and shook her. And as the sobbing girl sat on the floor, he thrust his foot on her chest.

The traumatised pupil said the incident happened on Monday when she came into class late.

“I cried when he shook me. Then, he put his stockinged foot on my chest,” said the nine-year-old pupil.

“After the class ended, I was not allowed to leave and the teacher locked me in the classroom for a few minutes while the rest of my friends went home.”

The pupil’s father, a taxi driver, said his daughter was too scared to return to school after the incident.

He met the school authorities before lodging a police report against the teacher the same day.

The school authority and the teacher concerned apologised to the pupil’s father yesterday but he demanded that the teacher be transferred out.

The school could not be reached for comment.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said yesterday that he was saddened by the incident.

“Teachers should not resort to such unruly behaviour when handling disciplinary issues,” he said.

He urged the Selangor Education Department to investigate the incident and take the necessary action.
