Attacks force shutdown of DAP websites

By REGINA LEE

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP has claimed that its websites have been attacked and forced to shut down since last Friday.

National publicity secretary Tony Pua (pix) said the party's official website, dapmalaysia.org, and its Malay portal, roketkini.com, were incapacitated by denial of service attacks (DDOS) on March 8, 10 and 13.

A DDOS attack occurs when a website registers an extremely large amount of artificial traffic to the extent that the server crashes.

"Our service provider report shows that the data impact of the attack had 240 times the normal traffic our websites usually get," Pua told a press conference Friday.

He added that the websites have been recovered and were up and running, but was pessimistic about their chances of withstanding more attacks.

He said the party would be relying on social media websites to get its campaign messages across.
