KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar is calling two experts to testify in the trial of her defamation suit against Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd over its report on her freedom of religion statement.

The two are Syrian Professor Sheikh Wahbah Al-Zuhaili and Perlis mufti Dr Juanda Jaya.

Her lead counsel Mohamed Hanipa Maidin said that he would ask both experts to prepare reports.

Utusan Melayu lead counsel Datuk Firoz Hussein Ahmad Jamaluddin told High Court judge Justice V.T. Singham that they need to examine the reports in order to bring in their own experts for the case.

Justice Singham ordered Mohamed Hanipa to prepare reports by the experts, their translations and affidavits and supply a copy of the documents to Firoz.

Firoz told the court that Utusan Melayu was expected to call four witnesses, including two experts.

Mohamed Hanipa also told Justice Singham that his client wanted the recording of the alleged defamatory statement to be played and heard by the judge during the trial to get a clear picture over the civil dispute.

The judge set July 30 for final case management.
