Protestors in Penang: Where are the affordable homes?
By OH CHIN ENG
GEORGE TOWN: Demonstrations were held in 10 locations in Penang by several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to protest their unhappiness over Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's failure to build affordable housing in the state.
The simultaneous protest organised under the Sekretariat Rakyat Bersatu Pulau Pinang umbrella was held in areas such as Jelutong, Teluk Kumbar, Permatang Pauh, Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor.
The organiser claimed that about 1,000 people attended the protests statewide.
In Bayan Baru, 20 members turned up in front of Bayan Baru market, claiming that the state government had failed to build any low cost or low-medium cost housing since they won the last general election in 2008.
