Penang given RM4.75mil to help reduce crime

GEORGE TOWN: The Federal Government has allocated RM4.75mil this year for Penang to run the National Key Results Area (NKRA) programme in reducing crime, state Barisan Nasional chief Teng Chang Yeow said.

“The allocation was channelled to the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) and Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) who will act as the implementers,” he said.

“Since 2010, the Federal Government has allocated RM16.6mil for the programme. We did not forget Penang,” he said before launching the NKRA Crime Reduction Programme at SK Sri Aman in Kampung Melayu yesterday.

The programme covers three areas – Rifle Range in Air Itam, Kampung Melayu flat in Kampung Melayu and Desa Mawar flat in Bandar Baru Air Itam – at a cost of RM2.375mil.

“Among the scope of the programme is to upgrade the street lights, construct guardrails and motorcycle park lots with locking devices,” said Teng.

“We want MPPP and MPSP to work as soon as they receive the allocation and not to delay on the projects, which are beneficial to the people.”
