Official: Pregnant lacrosse coach, driver die in bus crash


WASHINGTON: A lacrosse coach who was six months pregnant and a driver were killed Saturday after the team's bus crashed in Pennsylvania, officials said.

Kristina Quigley, the head women's lacrosse coach at Seton Hill University, died along with her unborn baby boy after suffering injuries in the crash that occurred at 9am (1300 GMT), the college said in a statement.

Quigley was pronounced dead after being airlifted to hospital, while the bus driver died at the scene of the accident near Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Cumberland County public safety officials said.

Nineteen other passengers, who were traveling to a match against Millersville University later Saturday, were treated for injuries, reports said.

The bus stood in an upright position at the foot of a slope with the front left side of the vehicle ripped wide open and obscured by trees.

"The Seton Hill University community is deeply saddened by the tragic bus accident that occurred at approximately 9 am this morning," the college said in a statement.

"At this time, Seton Hill University has learned that the university's head women's lacrosse coach, Kristina Quigley, died of injuries sustained in the crash.

"Quigley was pregnant, and her unborn baby boy died as a result of the crash as well. Quigley is survived by her husband, Glenn Quigley and young son, Gavin." - AFP
