GE13: Kit Siang to contest in Gelang Patah, says Anwar

JOHOR BARU: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang will contest the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He made the announcement at the DAP's 47th anniversary celebrations at Taman Sutera Utama in Skudai here last night.

Confirming speculation that Kit Siang would be battling it out in Johor in the coming general election, Anwar said:

“I give my full support to him. He is a heavyweight who has the courage to take over the duties of contesting in Gelang Patah.”

Anwar acknowledged that there had been some misunderstanding between the DAP and PKR about seat allocations, “but after thorough discussions between the parties, we have come to a win-win formula.”

He said it did not matter whether it was the DAP or PKR which contests the seat as long as Pakatan Rakyat emerged the winner.

Among the DAP leaders who turned up at the event were Karpal Singh, Lim Guan Eng and Johor DAP chairman Dr Boo Cheng Hau. PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu was also present.

However, Johor PKR chairman Datuk Chua Jui Meng was noticeably absent.

Talk has been rife that Dr Boo and Chua have been eyeing the seat.

Previously, the DAP had been contesting in Gelang Patah before passing it over to the PKR in 2008.

Kit Siang said this would be his biggest challenge yet.
