GE13: Kit Siang should be loyal to constituents, says Tee Yong
By WONG PEK MEI
PETALING JAYA: DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang has been criticised for continuously swapping and ditching his constituencies for the past 40 years.
MCA Young Professionals Bureau chairman Datuk Chua Tee Yong (pic) said Lim should be taken to task for not defending his incumbency.
“He has a history of swapping Chinese majority electorates after each general election.
“This only goes to show that after fanning up support with his rhethoric and deploying DAP's strategy of the politics of hatred, where they incite the crowd and pit the Chinese against the Chinese, Lim will then ditch his constituency after the ballots have been secured,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the DAP adviser has a history of swapping constituencies from Malacca, to Selangor, Penang, Perak and now Johor.
Chua said although it was Lim's democratic right to contest any constituencies he pleased, he should be loyal to the voters who have supported him.
“He owes a sense of loyalty to the electorate which had voted him to be a lawmaker, rather than forgetting them after each election,” he said.
Chua added the announcement by Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of Lim's candidacy for Gelang Patah on Monday showed a lack of respect.
“We fail to fathom why it is not DAP, the party, or their chairman Karpal Singh who made the announcement.
“To add insult to injury, the impromptu annoucement by Anwar was made during DAP's 47th party anniversary celebrations at Skudai,” he said.
He added it would have been appropriate for the top brass of DAP to make the announcement since it was a grand occasion for the party.
