SUBANG JAYA: The wives and families of the fallen police commandos are awaiting the arrival of the bodies at the Royal Malaysian Air Force base here.

Insp Zulkifli Mamat's wife Noraziah Noor, who is in a wheelchair, looked solemn surrounded by family members while Kpl Sabaruddin Daud's wife Noranisa Abu Bakar was speechless as policemen and media members surrounded the Air Force Control base here.

It is a sombre atmosphere as throngs of high-ranking policemen and personnel as well as dignitaries await the bodies' arrival from Tawau.

Among the dignitaries present are Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

The bodies are expected to touch down at the air base latest by 12.30pm Saturday.

In SABAK BERNAM, the family of Sabaruddin await his body.

The death of Sabaruddin Daud came as a shock to his family, said his younger sister, Salela Daud, 45.

She said when she first heard the news of his death at 4pm Friday, she thought he was involved in a vehicle accident.

"I was in the office when my sister called me. The details were sketchy.

"She only knew he died in an accident in Lahad Datu," she said at their mother's home at Kampung Sg Lias here Saturday.

She added that they did not know he was out on a mission.
