Cops bust robbery gang

By STEVEN CHIEW

KUALA LUMPUR: Police busted a robbery gang responsible for more than 60 cases nationwide with the arrest of four gang members.

Police also recovered three stolen vehicles from the gang, whose modus operandi is to tail victims who had just withdrawn cash and rob them.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah said this robbery gang has been active for over three years, and some gang members had been arrested last year.

“The most recent case was when the gang robbed a goldsmith in Desa Park City, Kepong of more than RM250,000 worth of cash and valuables on Jan 18.

“A unit from the Serious Crimes Unit (D9) managed to track down the gang in Kota Damansara last Thursday. The gang members were in three cars,” he told a press conference on Wednesday.

SAC Ku said one of the gang members tried to ram a car into police vehicles while the other members escaped in the two remaining vehicles.

“However, police managed to prevent the first car from ramming into them and arrested three men.

“Another car was found abandoned nearby while police gave chase to the third car for about 40km before cornering the suspect in Wangsa Maju, leading to the arrest of the fourth gang member,” he said.

He added that the police seized 23 set of fake number plates, five ski masks, four gloves, four machetes, five mobile phones and an axe from the three cars.

“All the suspects, who are aged between 31 and 52, have been remanded until March 21 for further investigations,” he said.
