SIBU: The local police have vowed to go all out to book traffic offenders following public complaints.

Sibu police chief ACP Shafie Ismail said he recently received several complaints from members of the public who wrote in on “the seriousness of indiscriminate parking, jumping traffic lights, illegal motorcycle racing and too many vehicles with heavily tinted glasses”.

He said illegal parking was most serious along Jalan Central and Jalan Tuanku Osman areas whereas illegal motorcycle racing was always carried out at night along Jalan Pedada.

“The complainants describe Sibu as a cowboy town where many drivers have no road courtesy and bad road manners.

“They also say that compared to other Malaysian towns, Sibu has the most number of vehicles with heavily tinted glasses,” he added.

ACP Shafie said police would be firm in taking action against those who broke the law, even if they were policemen and civil servants.

He urged car owners with heavily tinted glasses to remove them as soon as possible or face the maximum fine of RM300.
