Rayer sues Penang MIC Youth chief for defamation

GEORGE TOWN: A state assemblyman has filed two suits in the High Court against Penang MIC Youth chief J. Dhinagaran for defamation.

Sri Delima assemblyman R.S.N Rayer filed the suits on behalf of himself and his special assistant S. Savalingam at the High Court here yesterday.

In their writ of summons, both Rayer and Savalingam alleged that Dhinagaran had told online portals that they were involved in corrupt practices and misappropriation of constituency funds.

“Since Dhinagaran had refused to retract his statement and apologise, we are proceeding with legal action,” said Rayer after submitting the suit yesterday.

The two online portals had quoted Dhinagaran on March 8 and 11, claiming he had proof of Rayer’s involvement in corrupt practices.

Dhinagaran alleged that he had a copy of a Pakatan Rakyat supporter’s letter claiming that Savalingam misappropriated state education funds.

He also claimed he had a letter written by Rayer to the North-East District Office in which he donated a microwave oven to the department.

Although Rayer denied the accusations, Dhinagaran lodged four reports against him and two others with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday.

When contacted, Dhinagaran questioned Rayer’s rush to lodge the law suit although the report was lodged with the MACC only three days ago.
