Roles of public, military and police to be integrated under Esscomm to enhance security

By JOSEPH SIPALAN

PUTRAJAYA: The Government is working out a mechanism to integrate the roles of the public, military and police in propping up security under the newly established Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscomm), said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said the public play an important part in helping the authorities keep tabs on potential threats to national security and as such, there is a need to streamline their role with that of the military and the police as the three main components of Esscomm.

"The first line of defence must be the public and society. That is why Rela and JPAM (Civil Defence Department) were mobilised and the village heads and JKKKs (village development and security committees) were involved, so that the public can be the eyes and ears (for the security forces)," he said at a press conference at his office here on Thursday.
