Lahad Datu: Case not question of race but terrorism, says Gani Patail

TAWAU: Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail stressed that the charging of the eight Filipinos in the High Court has nothing to do with race but with terrorist activities.

He said the law did not look at race but the offence committed by the individual or group involved, whether it was against the law or not.

"For me, it is not a question of race, it is a question of terrorism. Don't forget, there are also our people (who have been charged for terrorist activity).

"For example Yazid Sufaat, a Malay who was charged with inciting terrorism to threaten the public in Syria.

"In law we do not look from that aspect (ethnicity). I am not surprised if there are other people (other races) who have joined (the terrorists)," he told a press conference here.

He was asked whether the eight accused in the Sabah intrusion incident were from the Suluk community or otherwise.

Gani said everyone wanted to see justice done and punishment should be meted out to those responsible.
