Eight years for ‘ustazah’ who helped hubby rape daughter
By QISHIN TARIQ
AMPANG: A religious teacher was punished with eight years’ jail by the Session Court here for assisting her husband to rape their teenage daughter.
Session judge Chan Jit Li convicted the woman after ruling that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt in the case.
The teacher had claimed trial to abetting her husband by forcing the teenager to take off her clothes, then closing her mouth with her hands while her husband raped the girl.
The offence occurred in their home at the Ampang Permai Prima apartment in Ampang Tasik Permai here in March 2011.
The 35-year-old ustazah was charged together with her husband in July 2011 for the rape of their 15-year-old daughter but was acquitted.
Early this year, she was acquitted of two other charges of abetting her husband to rape their daughter but was ordered to enter her defence on the third charge.
The husband, 38, pleaded guilty to the charge of raping the girl and was sentenced to nine years’ jail and 10 strokes of the rotan on Oct 30 last year.
DPP Nadiah Malek Fauzie urged the court to hand down a heavy sentence as the woman was a religious teacher, yet could still bring herself to commit such an act against her own daughter.
She said the fact that the woman had physically assisted her husband in the assault was an aggravating factor.
The court ordered the jail term to begin from the date of arrest, May 30, 2011.
