Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is suing Papa Gomo for alleged postings of defamatory words and images implicating him with another man.
The Opposition Leader said the blogger, identified as Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, 30, had implied that he was engaged in indecent acts with the man.
Anwar, who is PKR adviser, named Wan Muhammad Azri as the sole defendant. He filed the lawsuit through his lawyers, N. Surendran and Latheefa Koya, at the High Court civil registry here yesterday.
Speaking to reporters later, Surendran said his client was seeking RM100mil in damages, claiming that the allegations against him were fraud, serious, libel and made in bad faith.
In his statement of claim, Anwar said the blogger had wrongly posted four defamatory statements in his blog between March 16 and March 20.
The Permatang Pauh MP further said the blogger had connected his blog to weblink containing a series of images.
He added that the blog was accessible to those who surfed the net, causing embarrassment and damages to his character, dignity and reputation.
Anwar said that the posting of libellous words had meant that he was a person who was not fit to hold public office, immoral and an irresponsible leader.
He had issued, on March 19, a letter of demand to the blogger through a law firm to retract his (the blogger's) allegations, apologise and pay damages but the defendant had failed to do so.
Anwar said the blogger, on March 20, had issued a threat that if he (the PKR leader) did not apologise, Papa Gomo would post an alleged video linking him to a sexual act.
Anwar is seeking for general, aggravated and exemplary damages and an injunction to stop the blogger from posting similar defamatory words against him in any manner.
