RM37.8bil allocated to help the rakyat, says Husni

IPOH: A total of RM37.8bil has been allocated as aid for the rakyat this year.

The amount comprises RM22.3bil in subsidies, RM14.6bil in direct assistance and RM873.5mil in incentives, said Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.

“This year’s amount is higher than last year’s and is part of the Government’s social justice philosophy.

“As the country’s income increases, we channel part of it to help those who are in need, no matter what race or whether they are from rural or urban areas,” he said after launching the Tambun parliamentary Youth Development Council here yesterday.

Ahmad Husni said those left out in the development process would be given assistance.

The assistance, he added, would continue as long as Barisan Nasional remained in government.

Ahmad Husni said the country could even achieve annual per capita income of US$15,000 (RM45,000) by 2018 if the current growth trend continues.

“We achieved annual per capita income of US$9,000 (RM27,000) last year after the introduction of the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) and the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).

“We are confident of achieving the target two years earlier if the nation’s growth continues,” he said.
