By MAIZATUL NAZLINA

KUALA LUMPUR: A man was denied bail after the court considered past instances of victims withdrawing the cases after the accused were released on bail.

Sessions Court judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid disallowed the bail application of Ahmat Fitra Bustami, 24, who claimed trial to raping a 16-year-old girl. She fixed Apr 9 for mention.

Ahmat Fitra, a telemarketing representative, was charged with raping the girl in a living room of an apartment in Setapak here at about 2.30pm on Feb 25.

The offence carries a 20-year jail term.

Earlier, DPP Nurmadiana Mamat offered bail at RM20,000 in one surety.

In the dock, the unrepresented Ahmat Fitra cried when he asked for a lower bail saying he regarded the girl whom he knew for two years as his own sister.

He said he had sent the girl to school but did not know the girl's parents.

He added that his salary was RM800 a month and he supported his parents.
