Ex-serviceman wants to know why he cannot collect aid

KUCHING: Ex-serviceman Juna Gena from Serian is confused as to why he is unable to collect the one-off RM1,000 1Malaysia Contribution for Veterans Without Pension (SVTB1M) aid.

The 39-year-old retiree from Kampung Mujat, Mongkos said he received a letter dated Dec 15 from the Veterans Affairs Department in Kuala Lumpur last year stating that his application for the aid had been approved.

“Last month, I went to the department’s office in Jalan Satok here to ask about the aid payment but was told that I was not eligible because I quit the military. But the letter from the department’s headquarters said otherwise,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Juna said he was a lance corporal during his last posting at Pakit Camp in Sri Aman before he quit due to a misunderstanding in 2009. He served the military for 16 years.

Serian DAP chairman Edward Luak said he would help find out what happened to Juna’s application for the aid.
