Khairy calls for GE13 candidates list to be announced early

SUNGAI BESI: Umno Youth chairman Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar (pix) has called for the candidates list to be announced early to avoid "problems" during campaigning.
He said that ideally, the candidates list should be announced at least a week to 10 days before the nomination date of the general election so that they could "soothe" the disappointment of those who were not selected.
"Traditionally, the candidates will only be announced one or two days before nomination day, then we won't have time to sort out the various reactions in the party.
"If the announcement is made early, then we can remedy the various problems especially with those who will be disappointed," he told reporters after presenting the 1Malaysia Book Vouchers at the National Defence University (UPNM) on behalf of Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi here Thursday.
He added that the "problems" not exclusive to Barisan Nasional and that it would affect the Opposition as well.
"We all know that when candidates are disappointed, anything can happen. The supporters won't work, the machinery rooms won't open.
"I hope that these cases don't occur anymore," he said.
