Indonesian maid falls to death trying to escape through window of building
KULIM: An Indonesian maid died and three others were injured after they tried to escape by climbing out of a window of a two-storey shophouse to avoid being sent back to Indonesia, police said.
Kulim police chief Supt Ghuzlan Salleh said Thursday the dead woman had been identified as Rohana, 44, and the injured trio as Nuriani Lubis, 26, Miliawati, 42, and Siti Sakmah, 26.
He said that in the 6.30am incident two days ago, the four maids had tried to escape from the office of an employment agency, where they were living temporarily.
Supt Ghuzlan said one of the maids had been sent to several locations to work but were sent back by their employers.
“The employment agency was in the process of repatriating the maids,” he said.
He said the maids tried to scale down the building using several towels tied together, but Rohana lost her grip and fell.
The maids walked for about 300 metres before Rohana collapsed.
“One of them rushed to the nearby police station for help and a policeman took all of them to the Kulim Hospital, where Rohana died,” he said.
He said that the maids were going meet the husband of one of the four to continue staying in the country.
The police are waiting for the Indonesian consulate in Penang to send the three injured maids back to Indonesia.
