TAWAU: The Suluk community in Sabah is delighted over Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's assurance that the government does not doubt their loyalty.

Their spokesman Datu Raman Datu Ismail said the community welcomed the assurance from the Prime Minister, who was enroute to Lahad Datu to assess the ground situation following gunfights which erupted since Friday.

Datu Raman had earlier handed over a memorandum to Najib expressing the Suluk community's loyalty to the country.

Some 60 heads of government and non-governmental organisations, representing about 30,000 people of Suluk descent in Sabah were present.

Datu Raman also hoped other ethnic groups would not despise them as the Suluk community detested acts of violence and aggression, with the exception of a minority who had deviated from Islam. - Bernama
