Upin & Ipin are now Unicef Malaysia's ambassadors for children
KUALA LUMPUR: Popular animated characters Upin & Ipin have been chosen by the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) Malaysia as national ambassadors for children.
Unicef representative to Malaysia Wivina Belmonte said that the popularity of the two would help to champion the rights and well-being of children, as well as instilling respect towards girls and women.
“Upin & Ipin send an important message, that real boys don't bully, hit or hurt girls. It's not cool, it's not funny and it's not right in doing so,” she told reporters Thursday.
She said Unicef Malaysia would also be working with producer Les' Copaque Production, to create awareness on issues involving children with disabilities, bullying, Internet safety and violence against girls.
Karyabudi Mohd Aris, Les' Copaque's head of international marketing, said they looked forward to supporting Unicef through its various media and social media platforms.
He said that they had been chosen because they had been promoting cultural values and positive behaviour in their series through the years. - Bernama
