Babyface set for F1 Charity Gala
KUALA LUMPUR: Legendary singer-songwriter Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds (pic) will be headlining the entertainment bit of the SapuraKencana Petroleum Malaysia Grand Prix Charity Gala 2013.
The black tie event, which is by invitation only, is being hosted and presented by Sepang International Circuit (SIC) on March 21 at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
This prestigious annual event marks the start of the Formula One weekend and will be attended by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Raja Permaisuri Agong as well as more than 600 guests.
The highlight of the gala evening will be a live, private performance by 10-time Grammy Award-winning producer Babyface.
Themed “An Evening on the Eastern & Oriental Express”, the event promises to be a memorable evening of glitz and glamour with guests being entertained by Marques Young from the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra and ensemble before Babyface takes the stage.
The evening will start off with a cocktail reception where guests will have the opportunity to mingle with some of the top F1 drivers.
An F1 Charity Auction, where Formula One teams, drivers and sponsors make a contribution of high-value items for auction, will also be held to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Malaysian F1 race.
Items for the auction include an exclusive piece of jewellery from CERES and an exclusive tourbillon watch from Cecil Purnell.
All proceeds from the auction and pledges from guests will go to The National Heart Institute Foundation.
The gala event is a tradition since the race was first held here in 1999 and is a platform to welcome the F1 fraternity to Kuala Lumpur and to mark the beginning of the race weekend.
The SIC is the presenting sponsor of the event with SapuraKencana Petroleum being the title sponsor for the fund-raising gala.
Co-sponsors include Petronas Motorsports, Standard Chartered Bank, CERES and The House of Goenka, which is also the official jeweller for the event.
