Lahad Datu: I was misquoted by party paper, says Tian Chua

PETALING JAYA: PKR vice-president Tian Chua has refuted his own party organ, blaming it for misquoting him in the issue over the security forces in Lahad Datu.

The Batu MP said his remarks published last Friday by Keadilan Daily, in which he claimed that the shooting was a conspiracy by Umno to divert public attention, had been taken out of context.

“I was contacted by the journalist for comments about the intrusion in Lahad Datu on March 1 when the foreign press first published news about the shooting.

“I very clearly stated that the matter, at the time, was not confirmed and there was a media blackout here,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Denying that he had insulted the security forces protecting the country's sovereignty in Lahad Datu, Tian Chua said he would leave it to the courts to clear his name.

“The accusation that I have insulted the security forces is complete slander and malicious lies.

“I have the utmost respect for the security forces defending the country and sympathise with those who died in the line of their very challenging duty,” he said.

Tian Chua said he was also giving bloggers 24 hours to stop publishing allegations that he had stated that the security forces personnel had mati katak (died unnecessarily).
