KUALA LUMPUR: A pile of flowers outside the Philippines embassy at Jalan Changkat Kia Peng on Friday resounded the hearts' cry of Malaysians united in calling for peace in Sabah.

The first to place a rose stalk outside the gates of the embassy at 2.15pm here was a 37-year-old IT technician from Kota Kinabalu who said that the safety of the state was something very close to his heart.

"My prayer is that there will be peace once again in Lahad Datu, Semporna as well as the rest of Sabah; that we will no longer have to be afraid for the safety of our friends and family still living there," said the man who declined to be named.

He said that he had been following closely the recent events in his home state and that it had weighed heavily on his heart.

"So when I read about this initiative on Twitter, I decided I would do it, as a gesture to express my wish for peace and as a prayer to God," he said.

The initiative called "OpsBunga" by blogger Joe Lee became viral on Twitter since coming out on Mar 6.

“The initiative themed Fight Fire with Flowers, was simply to call for peace and show appreciation to those at the Lahad Datu and Semporna forefront,” he said
