Fund to be set up for family of slain policeman

KUCHING: A fund for the family of slain policeman DSP Michael Padel will be set up in the near future, says Sarawak Ex-Policemen Association chairman Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

DSP Michael, 36, from Serian was one of six policemen who were ambushed and killed in an attack by Sulu invaders in Semporna, Sabah.

He was buried at the Heroes Grave on March 6.

“Michael’s widow Jabah Mingku, who is a housewife, will need help in raising their son Mcluie, who is just 11,” Junaidi said yesterday.

“After a discussion with the police force and members of the community, we have decided to set up a fund.

“I urge those who sympathise with our security forces fighting for our continued peace, stability and sovereignty in Lahad Datu to give as much as they can to help support the families of those who have died in the line of duty,” he said, adding that the fund would be named Tabung Pahlawan (Heroes Fund).

“I have talked to police officers about a meeting and to open an account so that the fund can be established as soon as possible,” he said.

Those who wish to know more can visit Junaidi’s office at 202, Jalan Kulas here, or the association headquarters at Lot 561, Level 2 in Jalan Rubber.
