GE13: PSM sees 50-50 chance of retaining Sg Siput

SUNGAI SIPUT: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) central committee member Dr Michael Jeyakumar has taken on the underdog approach, saying that it would not be a walkover for the party to win the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat.

The Sungai Siput MP said the party had a 50-50 chance of keeping the seat as Barisan Nasional had its strengths too.

“Our party has gone down to the grassroots for a long time to understand the people and help them resolve their problems. Barisan's strengths lies in its funding and machinery.

“I believe the voters are more mature and they know which leader they want for their future,” he said after launching the Sungai Siput PSM seat manifesto at Kampung Baru Simpang Jalong market here yesterday.

However, Dr Jeyakumar was confident of winning the seat provided it was a one-to-one fight between PSM and Barisan in the Jelapang state seat.

“We are still discussing the seat allocations with DAP. If PSM contests in the state seat, we could bring a grassroots' perspective to Pakatan Rakyat as we have the understanding of what the poor needs,” he said.

“PSM is not afraid of a three-cornered fight in Jelapang but I believe the rakyat wants it to be a one-to-one fight.”

PSM won the Sungai Siput seat which it contested under the PKR ticket in 2008.
