PETALING JAYA: Kota Tinggi MP Tan Sri Syed Hamid Syed Jaafar Albar has confirmed that he will not be contesting in the 13th general election.

Syed Hamid, who is the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman, said it was a decision he had made “a while back” but he wanted to ensure “everything was in order” before making any official announcement.

“Now that my job is done, I feel it is the right time to announce that I will not offer myself as a candidate for the GE13,” he said in a statement yesterday.

“I have served under three Prime Ministers and as an MP for Kota Tinggi for five terms.

“It has been a long and very satisfying period for me to serve the rakyat of Kota Tinggi and the nation.”

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Government and Umno for giving him a chance to serve the rakyat and thanked the Kota Tinggi people for their undivided support.

“I pray and trust that the voters of Kota Tinggi will give their full support to the candidate chosen by the leadership, as they had given me, for many years.”
