GE13: Twitter abuzz over first-time voting experience

PETALING JAYA: The first time for anything, including voting in a general election, is a memorable experience and many are taking to Twitter over their excitement at doing so. Yesterday, #GEvoter has become a trending topic on Twitter.

For example, GE13 would be actress and singer @adibahnoor's first time at the ballot box.

“The people's voice has become stronger, thanks to social media,” she said.

“So much so that politicians are listening to us. So, like other registered #GEvoter, I want to choose my leader this time,” shared Adibah.

Another celebrity who is excited to cast her vote for the first time is singer-songwriter Hannah Tan.

“As a #GEvoter, it's good to know that I can share my sentiments and help make the difference,” said the petite lass from Penang.

Equally enthusiastic about GE13 are those who have had the experience of exercising their rights.

Contemporary artist Nizam Rahmat is one.

“In 2004, my wife and me voted together and it was a memorable experience as we exercised our duty as a rakyat together”.

His heartwarming quote received over 80 retweets, including one by Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak.

@VenkatesRao tweeted a picture of himself registering to vote as an absentee voter at the Malaysian Consulate in Chennai.

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin recounted his 1978 experience at the polls via a video interview, and advised first-time voters to “make a balanced decision”.
