GE13: Mukhriz: We must work as a team to deliver Kedah back to BN
ALOR SETAR: Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, who is contesting the Ayer Hitam state seat, said Kedah Barisan Nasional is all “charged up” to win back the state.
“We must work as a team to deliver the state back to Barisan,” said Mukhriz, who is state Barisan deputy chairman. In the 2008 general election, he won the Jerlun parliamentary seat.
Mukhriz, who is tipped to be the next Mentri Besar if Barisan succeeds in wresting control of the state from PAS, said the priority was on delivering the state.
On the state manifesto, which would be unveiled tomorrow, he said:
“We have outlined our social and economic agenda.”
Kedah Barisan chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said they were facing the most challenging time in Kedah politics.
“Together with MCA, MIC, Gerakan and PPP, we will charge ahead to win the state,” he said.
Alor Setar Umno deputy president Guntor Tobeng said the line-up comprised a good combination of old and young faces, professionals and women candidates.
Meanwhile, Bernama reports that Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak will face his cousin in the 13th general election if he were to defend his Sungai Limau state seat, which he has held since 1995.
(Ahmad Bashah has announced that Azizan's cousin Mohd Fadzillah Mohd Ali, 55, who is Jerai Umno deputy chief, is Barisan's candidate for the seat.)
Mohd Fadzillah said he was confident that Barisan would clinch victory in the state.
Despite their political differences, Mohd Fadzillah said he still maintained a close relationship with Azizan, who is Kedah PAS commissioner.
“I always believe that BN is better than the Opposition.
“When I decided to contest against him, many of our family members disagreed but for me, it's just politics and blood is thicker than water,” he said.
