GE13: PSM, PKR reach logo deal for Kota Damansara and Sungai Siput, but it's a three-cornered fight with BN in Semenyih
By MARTIN VENGADESAN
PSM secretary-general S. Arutchelvan KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and PKR have agreed that PSM will contest in the Kota Damansara state and Sungai Siput parliamentary seats under the PKR logo in the May 5 general election.
PSM had initially wanted to stand in these seats using its own symbol but PKR appealed for it to stand under the PKR logo or face three-cornered fights.
"Taking into consideration the larger goal and public interest, PSM has agreed to use the PKR logo," PSM secretary-general S. Arutchelvan said in a statement early Wednesday.
Both seats were won by PSM in the 2008 elections.
He said based on the agreement, PSM will stand only in the May 5 general election under the PKR party logo but be allowed to stand under in its own logo in the next elections.
"Besides that, there is also an agreement that PSM be allowed to operate as an independent party without any condition from PKR," he added.
Meanwhile, PSM chairman Dr Mohd Nasir Hashim said Wednesday that Arutchelvan would contest in the Semenyih state seat under the party's own logo, making it a three-cornered fight.
He added that negotiations were still ongoing for the Jelapang state seat.
