ALOR SETAR: Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak is embroiled in a historic four-cornered fight in Sungai Limau.

Azizan, who is facing internal and external attacks, is being challenged by his cousin from Barisan Nasional, a PAS member, and an activist.

Multi-cornered fight in Sungai Limau is practically unheard of, as the PAS stronghold usually see a straight fight with Barisan.

Azizan, who is contesting the seat for a fifth term under PAS ticket, is challenged by his cousin Mohd Fazillah Mohd Ali, 55, fellow PAS member Abdullah Hashim, and Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Malaysia (GPMS) former secretary-general Sobri Ahmad, 49.

Barisan candidate Fazillah is an architect of global calibre.

Azizan, 69, is the Kedah Pas commissioner who had survived internal attempts to undermine his leadership.

Meanwhile Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir is engaged in a straight fight with incumbent Abdul Ghani Ahmad in the battle for the Ayer Hitam state seat.

Abdul Ghani had contested the seat three times and had only lost once in 2004.
