GE13: Ghani confident as battle with Kit Siang looms
By TASHNY SUKUMARAN and T. AVINESHWARAN
Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman with Lim Kit Siang on nomination day. GELANG PATAH: Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Ghani Othman is not afraid of facing DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang at the polls come voting day.
"I think I have a fair chance," he told reporters after attending a dinner at the community hall in Skudai Wednesday night.
"I've been here serving the people for 18 years now. We've brought about developments which benefit the rakyat as a whole.
"The people will take that into account despite the opposition claims," said Ghani, who is also a member of the Umno supreme council.
Ghani, who has been Johor MB since 1995, said that he would continue reaching out to the people during the remaining campaign period.
He promised to give his all to not just the people of Gelang Patah, but the people of Johor as well.
Currently, his opponent DAP adviser Lim is in East Malaysia for a two-day trip that will see him speak in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, and Mas Gading.
The 72-year-old Gelang Patah candidate has said previously he believes Ghani has the home ground advantage.
In Gelang Patah, just 25km from Johor Baru, Chinese make up 52% of the electorate, while Malays and Indians sit at 34% and 12% respectively.
