Lahad Datu: Opposition leaders linked to Sulu intrusion, says Zahid

ALOR SETAR: Three opposition leaders have been identified by the Defence Ministry as being linked to the Lahad Datu incursion, its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

He said two of the leaders were from peninsular Malaysia and the other from Sabah, adding that the ministry had enough evidence to bring the individuals to justice.

“We have gathered the evidence but we need to ensure that it is lawful and can be used in court.

“If we use other means to take action, we will be accused of political play. So, we will leave it to the Attorney-General to do it,” he said after a visit to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) College here yesterday.

Dr Ahmad Zahid said the ministry would wait until after the general election before forwarding the case to the Attorney-General's office to avoid being accused of using the issue to gain political mileage for Umno.

“We can take action now but the Opposition will accuse us of political sabotage. They had even accused us of staging the intrusion (in Lahad Datu),” he said.

Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno vice-president, said the ministry was also gathering evidence against former army officers who exposed secret information at ceramah.
