GE13: Hisham: Husam’s statement on Customs deputy D-G offensive

KLUANG: Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has hit out against Datuk Husam Musa for claiming that the murder of Customs Department deputy director-general Datuk Shaharuddin Ibrahim was “due to a corrupt government”.

The Home Minister described the remarks made by the PAS candidate for the Putrajaya parliamentary seat as “rude and offensive” towards the victim's family.

Hishammuddin also likened the statement to that made by PKR vice-president Tian Chua over the Lahad Datu incursion.

“As a politician, Husam should be careful with his words as he may hurt the feelings of civil servants nationwide,” Hishammuddin said at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple's ground-breaking ceremony in Paloh here.

“He is being irresponsible by linking the death of the Customs officer with corruption.”

Hishammuddin also reminded Pakatan Rakyat politicians to stop politicising such tragedies to be in the limelight during this general election.

“The police and the Attorney-General's Chambers are investigating if action could be taken against Husam. Now, many civil servants have rejected the opposition and Husam's statement could have a bearing in the elections.”

Husam is alleged to have made the remarks over Shaharuddin's death during a ceramah in Putrajaya on Friday night.

Shaharuddin was gunned down while he was on his way to his office in Putrajaya at around 8.15am on Friday.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has sent his condolences to the 58-year-old's family.
