GE13: 200 to cast their ballots at consulate in New York
NEW YORK: About 200 Malaysians residing in the east coast of the United States will cast their votes for the 13th general election at the Malaysian consulate in New York today.
Malaysian Consul-General in New York Syed Bakri Syed Abdul Rahman said that from the total, about 150 were postal voters, namely Malaysians who had registered to vote overseas and had fulfilled the conditions.
The balance are absentee voters who comprise government employees working in New York as well as their spouses and students at several universities here, he said.
Preparations have been made to ensure the balloting proceeds smoothly. Two vo-ting counters will be open from 9am to 5pm.
“A team of 10 personnel, including officers of the consulate office and the office of the Malaysian Permanent Representative to the United Nations will be on duty.
“The process will be observed by several people representing political parties,” added Syed Bakri.
Call of voting duty: ‘KD Terengganu’ crew members casting their ballots at Kampung Tanduo in Sabah. In Lahad Datu, a total of 96 Royal Malaysian Navy officers and men on duty in Malaysia's waters here cast their postal votes for GE13.
The crew of KD Terengganu who have been patrolling the coast of east Sabah since early last month carried out their responsibility as voters yesterday.
The voting process was conducted by three officers of the Defence Ministry's Department of Direction Records and Pensions, representing the Election Commission.
KD Terengganu commanding officer Komander Shaiful Mayudin said RMN personnel were fulfilling their responsibility as citizens.
“My crew and I will be working throughout to protect the country's sovereignty, including on May 5,” he said. - Bernama
