GE13: PAS group defies order to support PKR candidate

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of PAS members are still campaigning for its candidate in the Kota Damansara state seat despite the party having announced that it would give way to Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM).

PSM candidate for Kota Damansara Dr Mohd Nasir Hashim, who is contesting on a PKR ticket, said the PAS leadership had given the directive that it would support PKR's bid for the seat.

“However, there is a group defying those orders. I don't know why,” he told an online portal here yesterday.

Dr Mohd Nasir said he had told PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali about the matter.

“I just hope that they can resolve this matter as soon as possible because time is running out. I consider this to be an internal matter between PAS' top leadership and the PAS (division) here,” he added.

Meanwhile, at another press conference, PSM secretary-general S. Arutchelvan had also urged PKR candidate for Semenyih Hamidi A. Hasan to withdraw from contesting the seat.

“We have been asking PKR to withdraw since before nomination day but to no avail. We want a straight fight against Barisan,” said Arutchelvan, who is also standing for elections in the seat.

When contacted, Hamidi said he would not withdraw from contesting, adding that “PKR was the only recognised Pakatan Rakyat candidate”.
