GE13: Groups find PAS campaigners annoying
PETALING JAYA: Opposition supporters and several DAP branch leaders backing Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) chairman Dr Mohd Nasir Hashim for the Kota Damansara state seat are annoyed that PAS members are still campaigning for their candidate who has pulled out.
“Despite the recent directive by PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali, PAS members are campaigning aggressively for the PAS candidate in Kota Damansara,” said lawyer Michael Wong, representing a group calling itself the Community of Organisations and Associations.
“They are still campaigning door to door, distributing leaflets and telling voters that the directive issued by Mustafa is not valid,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Also present were Jaringan Rakyat Tertindas (Jerit) coordinator Bawani KS, DAP branch chairmen from Subang, Setia Alam and Bukti Jelutong, as well as representatives from Kampung Subang and the Ladang Subang Maha Mariaman Temple.
PAS' Ridzuan Ismail and four others filed their nomination papers to challenge Dr Mohd Nasir, the incumbent Kota Damansara assemblyman, who is contesting under the PKR ticket.
The others are Barisan Nasional's Halimatun Saadiah Bohan and independent candidates Edrus Abdullah, Halmi Omar and A. Suppiah.
Wong said the action of the PAS campaigners had caused confusion among opposition supporters.
When contacted, Mustafa, who is in Sabah, confirmed issuing the order to Ridzuan, adding that PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu had also called on the candidate to heed the party's order.
On Saturday, Mustafa announced that PAS would withdraw from the seat and directed its election machinery to assist Dr Mohd Nasir.
