GE13: MCA members urged to stay calm and let top leadership deliberate

PETALING JAYA: MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha has urged party members to remain calm and stand united as “we wade through this difficult period”.

The presidential council, he said, would meet tomorrow for an in-depth deliberation of the outcome of the general election.

“Meanwhile, I urge all MCA members to remain stoic, persevere and await the decision of the MCA central leadership,” he said.

“I believe party members should not use the election results to launch attacks on individual leaders as this will further damage the party's image and standing.”

“I would like to remind MCA members that during these challenging times, MCA should avoid internal conflicts lest the Opposition uses the occasion to manufacture issues to further attack MCA,” he said in a statement yesterday.

It has been reported that some party members had called on MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek to step down immediately following the poor results of the general election. MCA won seven parliamentary seats compared to 15 in 2008.
