GE13: It’s an honest human error, DAP tells ROS

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP has met with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to explain that mistakes in party elections last year which resulted in a leader being dropped from its central executive committee were due to “honest human error” and not fraud.

Party strategist Dr Ong Kian Ming said he and returning officer Pooi Weng Keong gave their statements to the ROS on mistakes regarding tabulation of votes involving the party's CEC election last December.

“I also told them that it affected only two people, namely Vincent Wu and Zairil Khir Johari,” he said, adding that supporting documents were also furnished to ROS.

He said the meeting was cordial, adding that he hoped the matter would be closed soon.

The DAP's central executive committee CEC election turned into a controversy when Zairil, who is party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng's political secretary, obtained 803 votes in a recalculation of the votes as compared to 305 in the initial result.

Zairil became a CEC member while Wu was dropped. The error was attributed to a “technical glitch”.
