Two WWII bombs dug up during upgrading works at Ipoh cargo terminal

IPOH: Two bombs, believed to be from World War II, were discovered at the Ipoh Cargo Terminal near Jalan Maxwell here Friday.

Terminal chief executive officer Sabtiah Abu Kassim said the bombs were dug up by the contractor in charge of the terminal's yard upgrading project around 9.30am.

She said the office, after learning about the bombs, had immediately called the police.

"The police sent a bomb squad over to destroy the bombs," she told reporters when met at the site.

When contacted, Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong confirmed the bombs were old.

"The two bombs were destroyed at 11.30am and 12.05pm respectively," he said, adding that he was waiting for the bomb squad's report.
