No permit issued for Pakatan ceramah in Ipoh, say police

IPOH: Perak police confirmed that no permit was issued for a ceramah held by Pakatan at Dewan Chin Woo on Thursday night, which was attended by DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.

Perak deputy police chief Datuk A. Paramasivam said the police did not receive any notice from the organiser to hold the event.

"This is against the law. Police are conducting investigations for further action," he told reporters at the Perak Contingent Police headquarters Friday.

Police have also received information on a rally by the opposition to be held on Sunday, but no application for a rally permit has been submitted, he said.

He said the organiser should give notice to the district police chief at least 10 days before the rally is held, in line with Section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act.

He added that organisers who fail to comply can be fined up to RM10,000 if convicted under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act. - Bernama
