KUALA LUMPUR: Former Cabinet minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed has obtained an injunction order in a libel and conspiracy suit to stop Datuk Husam Musa, PAS and three others from defaming him.

High Court judge Justice Nor Bee Ariffin issued an interim injunction until disposal of the matter, said Mustapa’s lead counsel Datuk Seri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.

Speaking to reporters here, Muhammad Shafee said that Justice Nor Bee set July 17 for inter parte injunction hearing.

The defendants’ counsel Azhana Mohd Khairuddin said his clients want to reply to all the affidavits filed by the plaintiff now.

Mustapa had sued PAS vice-president Husam, PAS, its secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali, editor-in-chief of harakahdaily.net Zulkifli Sulong and its editor Azmi Yusof for allegedly implying that he was involved in fraudulent activities.

He said that Husam spoke at a political gathering named Pelancaran Kekal K organised by PAS on March 23, which was held at the Machang expo site in Kelantan.

PAS, Mustafa and its editors had publicised Husam’s speech on harakahdaily.net on March 24, he said.

In his statement of claim filed on April 22, Mustapa said that the defamatory words had meant that he abused his power for his own personal gain.

He said it had also implied that he had indulged in fraudulent activities such as cheating people, wrongfully allocating shares in Felda Global Ventures Holdings and giving them freely to Umno politicians without any payment consideration.

He is seeking damages for libel, conspiracy and malicious falsehood.
