ALOR SETAR: A car repossessor was shot dead a few metres from his home in Taman Setia Jaya here.
M. Nagenthiran (pic), 30, was shot three times in the head and body on the fifth floor of the five-storey block of flats.
His wife G. Parameswary, 29, said she was sleeping with their two children, aged three and five, when she heard someone knocking on the front door at about 12.30am yesterday.
“I opened the door to find a policeman standing outside and he told me that my husband was dead.
“I rushed out and found him lying in a pool of blood only a few metres from our unit,” she said at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital mortuary.
Earlier, a neighbour who spotted Nagenthiran’s body on the corridor alerted the police.
Parameswary said the last time she saw her husband was around 6pm on Thursday.
“I returned home that day to find my husband getting ready to go out. I asked him to buy me some medication for my toothache,” the housewife said.
Parameswary, who did not hear the gunshots, said she did not know where her husband was going when he left the house.
She said the family had only moved to the unit six months ago from Taman Bersatu in Kuala Kedah, near here.
A neighbour, who declined to be named, said he saw several men pushing and shouting at each other when he peeked through his window upon hearing an argument taking place outside his unit at about midnight.
“Less than a minute after I closed my window, I heard a loud sound like firecrackers being let off.
“I was too scared and remained inside until I heard Parameswary shouting for help,” he said.
Kota Setar CID chief Deputy Supt V. Savaranan said police had detained a man in his 30s to facilitate investigations.
